A SOVEREIGN Protector I have, unseen, yet for ever at hand, unchangeably faithful to save, almighty to rule and command. He smiles, and my comforts abound; His grace as the dew shall descend;and walls of salvation surroundthe soul He delights to defend.2 Inspirer and hearer of prayer,Thou shepherd and guardian of Thine,my all to Thy covenant careI sleeping and waking resign. If Thou art my shield and my sun,the night is no darkness to me;and fast as my moments roll on,they bring me but nearer to Thee.3 Kind author and ground of my hope,Thee, Thee, for my God I avow;my glad Ebenezer set up,and own Thou hast helped me till now.I muse on the years that are past, wherein my defence Thou hast proved;nor wilt Thou relinquish at lasta sinner so signally loved!
1 ¶ Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!2 Why should the nations say,“Where is their God?”3 Our God is in the heavens;he does all that he pleases.4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands.5 They have mouths, but do not speak;eyes, but do not see.6 They have ears, but do not hear;noses, but do not smell.7 They have hands, but do not feel;feet, but do not walk;and they do not make a sound in their throat.8 Those who make them become like them;so do all who trust in them.9 ¶ O Israel, trust in the LORD!He is their help and their shield.10 O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD!He is their help and their shield.11 You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD!He is their help and their shield.12 The LORD has remembered us; he will bless us;he will bless the house of Israel;he will bless the house of Aaron;13 he will bless those who fear the LORD,both the small and the great.14 May the LORD give you increase, you and your children!15 May you be blessed by the LORD,who made heaven and earth!16 The heavens are the LORD’s heavens, but the earth he has given to the children of man.17 The dead do not praise the LORD,nor do any who go down into silence.18 But we will bless the LORDfrom this time forth and forevermore.Praise the LORD!
MY hope is built on nothing lessthan Jesus’ blood and righteousness;I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;all other ground is sinking sand.
2 When darkness veils His lovely face,I rest on His unchanging grace;in every high and stormy gale,my anchor holds within the veil.3 His oath, His cov’nant, and His blood, support me in the whelming flood;when all around my soul gives way,He then is all my hope and stay.4 When He shall come with trumpet sound,O may I then in Him be found!clothed in His righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne.
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.
What is our hope in life and death?Christ alone, Christ alone. What is our only confidence? That our souls to him belong.Who holds our days within his hand? What comes, apart from his command? And what will keep us to the end?The love of Christ, in which we stand.
O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal;O sing hallelujah! Now and ever we confessChrist our hope in life and death.
What truth can calm the troubled soul?God is good, God is good.Where is his grace and goodness known? In our great Redeemer’s blood.Who holds our faith when fears arise?Who stands above the stormy trial?Who sends the waves that bring us nighUnto the shore, the rock of Christ?Unto the grave, what shall we sing?“Christ, he lives; Christ, he lives!”And what reward will heaven bring?Everlasting life with him. There we will rise to meet the Lord,Then sin and death will be destroyed,And we will feast in endless joy,When Christ is ours forevermore.
There is a hope that burns within my heart,That gives me strength for every passing day;A glimpse of glory now revealed in meagre part,Yet drives all doubt away:I stand in Christ, with sins forgiven; And Christ in me, the hope of heaven! My highest calling and my deepest joy,To make His will my home. There is a hope that lifts my weary head,A consolation strong against despair,That when the world has plunged me in its deepest pit,I find the Saviour there!Through present sufferings, future's fear,He whispers 'courage' in my ear.For I am safe in everlasting arms,And they will lead me home. There is a hope that stands the test of time,That lifts my eyes beyond the beckoning grave,To see the matchless beauty of a day divineWhen I behold His face! When sufferings cease and sorrows die,And every longing satisfied,Then joy unspeakable will flood my soul,For I am truly home.
Text:1Pet.1:3 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,"
IN Christ alone my hope is found,He is my light, my strength, my song;this cornerstone, this solid ground, firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace, when fears are stilled, when strivings cease! My Comforter, my all in all, here in the love of Christ I stand.2 In Christ alone! – who took on flesh, fulness of God in helpless babe!this gift of love and righteousness, scorned by the ones He came to save:till on that cross as Jesus dies, the wrath of God was satisfied –for every sin on Him was laid;here in the death of Christ I live.3 There in the ground His body lay,Light of the world by darkness slain:then bursting forth in glorious dayup from the grave He rose again! And as He stands in victorysin’s curse has lost its grip on me,for I am His and He is mine –bought with the precious blood of Christ.4 No guilt in life, no fear in death, this is the power of Christ in me;from life’s first cry to final breath,Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of man,can ever pluck me from His hand;till He returns or calls me home, here in the power of Christ I’ll stand!
