JOY to the world! the Lord is come!
let earth receive her King;
let every heart prepare Him room,
and heaven and nature sing.
2 Joy to the earth! the Saviour reigns!
let men their songs employ;
while fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains,
repeat the sounding joy.
3 He rules the world with truth and grace,
and makes the nations prove
the glories of His righteousness,
the wonders of His love.
Isaiah 9 :2-7 “The people who walked in darknesshave seen a great light;those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,on them has light shined.3 You have multiplied the nation;you have increased its joy;they rejoice before youas with joy at the harvest,as they are glad when they divide the spoil.4 For the yoke of his burden,and the staff for his shoulder,the rod of his oppressor,you have broken as on the day of Midian.5 For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumultand every garment rolled in bloodwill be burned as fuel for the fire.6 For to us a child is born,to us a son is given;and the government shall be upon his shoulder,and his name shall be calledWonderful Counsellor, Mighty God,Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.7 Of the increase of his government and of peacethere will be no end,on the throne of David and over his kingdom,to establish it and to uphold itwith justice and with righteousnessfrom this time forth and forevermore.The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.
Unto us a boy is born!King of all creation,Came he to a world forlorn,The Lord of ev'ry nation.Cradled in a stall was heWith sleepy cows and asses;But the very beasts could seeThat he all men surpasses.Herod then with fear was filled:'A prince, he said, 'in Jewry!'All the little boys he killedAt Bethlem in his fury.Now may Mary's son, who cameSo long ago to love us,Lead us all with hearts aflameUnto the joys above us.Omega and Alpha he!Let the organ thunder,While the choir with peals of gleeDoth rend the air asunder.
Matthew 1:18-25Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit. And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us). When Joseph woke from sleep, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded him: he took his wife, but knew her not until she had given birth to a son. And he called his name Jesus.
LET earth and heaven combine,angels and men agree,to praise in songs divine,the incarnate Deity,our God contracted to a span,incomprehensibly made man.2 He laid His glory by,he wrapped Him in our clay;unmarked by human eye,the latent Godhead lay;infant of days He here became,and bore the mild Immanuel’s name.3 Unsearchable the lovethat has the Saviour brought;the grace is far aboveor man or angel’s thought:suffice for us that God, we know,our God, is manifest below.4 Made perfect by His love,and sanctified by grace,we shall from earth remove,and see His glorious face:then shall His love be fully showed,and man shall then be lost in God.
ANGELS from the realms of glory,wing your flight o’er all the earth;ye who sang creation’s story,now proclaim Messiah’s birth;
Come and worshipChrist, the new-born King:come and worship,worship Christ the new-born King.
2 Shepherds, in the field abiding,watching o’er your flocks by night,God with man is now residing;yonder shines the infant light;3 Sages, leave your contemplations;brighter visions beam afar;seek the great Desire of nations;ye have seen His natal star;4 Saints, before the altar bending,watching long in hope and fear,suddenly the Lord, descending,in His temple shall appear.
HARK! the herald angels singglory to the new-born King,peace on earth, and mercy mild,God and sinners reconciled.Joyful, all ye nations, rise,join the triumph of the skies;with the angelic host proclaim,‘Christ is born in Bethlehem.’
Hark! the herald angels singglory to the new-born King.
2 Christ, by highest heaven adored,Christ, the everlasting Lord,late in time behold Him come,offspring of a virgin’s womb.Veiled in flesh the Godhead see!Hail, the incarnate Deity!Pleased as Man with men to dwell,Jesus, our Immanuel.3 Hail, the heaven-born Prince of Peace!Hail, the Sun of righteousness!Light and life to all He brings,risen with healing in His wings.Mild, He lays His glory by,born that man no more may die,born to raise the sons of earth,born to give them second birth.
