  • Hymn

STAND up, and bless the Lord,
you people of His choice:
stand up, and bless the Lord your God
with heart and soul and voice.

2 Though high above all praise,
above all blessing high,
who would not fear His holy Name,
and praise and magnify?

3 O for the living flame
from His own altar brought,
to touch our lips, our minds inspire,
and wing to heaven our thought!

4 God is our strength and song,
and His salvation ours;
let us proclaim His love in Christ
with all our ransomed powers.

5 Stand up, and bless the Lord,
the Lord your God adore;
stand up, and bless His glorious Name
henceforth for evermore.

  • Reading N°1

Isaiah 56:1-8

1 ¶  Thus says the LORD:
   "Keep justice, and do righteousness,
   for soon my salvation will come,
         and my deliverance be revealed.
2  Blessed is the man who does this,
         and the son of man who holds it fast,
   who keeps the Sabbath, not profaning it,
         and keeps his hand from doing any evil."
3 ¶  Let not the foreigner who has joined himself to the LORD say,
         "The LORD will surely separate me from his people";
   and let not the eunuch say,
         "Behold, I am a dry tree."
4  For thus says the LORD:
   "To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths,
         who choose the things that please me
         and hold fast my covenant,
5  I will give in my house and within my walls
         a monument and a name
         better than sons and daughters;
   I will give them an everlasting name
         that shall not be cut off.
6  "And the foreigners who join themselves to the LORD,
         to minister to him, to love the name of the LORD,
         and to be his servants,
   everyone who keeps the Sabbath and does not profane it,
         and holds fast my covenant—
7  these I will bring to my holy mountain,
         and make them joyful in my house of prayer;
   their burnt offerings and their sacrifices
         will be accepted on my altar;
   for my house shall be called a house of prayer
         for all peoples."
8  The Lord GOD,
         who gathers the outcasts of Israel, declares,
   "I will gather yet others to him
         besides those already gathered."

  • Hymn

PRAISE Him, praise Him! Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer;
sing, O earth, His wonderful love proclaim!
Hail Him, hail Him! highest archangels in glory,
strength and honour give to His holy Name.
Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard His children,
in His arms He carries them all day long;
O ye saints that dwell in the mountains of Zion,
praise Him, praise Him! ever in joyful song.

2 Praise Him, praise Him! Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer;
for our sins He suffered and bled and died.
He, our rock, our hope of eternal salvation,
hail Him, hail Him! Jesus the crucified.
Loving Saviour, meekly enduring sorrow,
crowned with thorns that cruelly pierced His brow;
once for us rejected, despised, and forsaken,
Prince of glory, ever triumphant now.

3 Praise Him, praise Him! Jesus, our blessèd Redeemer;
heavenly portals loud with hosannas ring!
Jesus, Saviour, reigneth for ever and ever,
crown Him, crown Him! Prophet and Priest and King!
Death is vanquished, tell it with joy, ye faithful!
Where is now thy victory, boasting grave?
Jesus lives, no longer thy portals are cheerless;
Jesus lives, the mighty and strong to save.

"I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will. The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former proclaim Christ out of rivalry, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death.

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith, so that in me you may have ample cause to glory in Christ Jesus, because of my coming to you again."

  • Hymn

IT passes knowledge, that dear love of Thine,
my Saviour, Jesus, yet this soul of mine
would of Thy love, in all its breadth and length,
its height and depth, its everlasting strength,
know more and more.

2 It passes telling, that dear love of Thine,
my Saviour, Jesus, yet these lips of mine
would fain proclaim to sinners, far and near,
a love which can remove all guilty fear,
and love beget.

3 It passes praises, that dear love of Thine,
my Saviour, Jesus, yet this heart of mine
would sing that love, so full, so rich, so free,
which brings a rebel sinner, such as me,
nigh unto God.

4 But though I cannot sing, or tell, or know
the fulness of Thy love while here below,
my empty vessel I may freely bring:
O Thou who art of love the living spring,
my vessel fill.

5 O fill me, Jesus, Saviour, with Thy love!
Lead, lead me to the living fount above;
thither may I, in simple faith, draw nigh,
and never to another fountain fly,
but unto Thee.

6 And when my Jesus face to face I see,
when at His lofty throne I bow the knee,
then of His love, in all its breadth and length,
its height and depth, its everlasting strength,
my soul shall sing!

JESUS is the name we honour;
Jesus is the name we praise.
Majestic name above all other names,
the highest heaven and earth proclaim
that Jesus is our God.

We will glorify,
we will lift Him high,
we will give Him honour and praise.
We will glorify…

2 Jesus is the name we worship;
Jesus is the name we trust.
He is the King above all other kings,
let all creation stand and sing
that Jesus is our God.

We will glorify…

3 Jesus is the Father’s splendour;
Jesus is the Father’s joy.
He will return to reign in majesty,
and every eye at last will see
that Jesus is our God.

We will glorjfy…

SO let our lips and lives express
the holy gospel we profess;
so let our works and virtues shine,
to prove the doctrine all divine.

2 Thus shall we best proclaim abroad
the honours of our Saviour God,
when His salvation reigns within,
and grace subdues the power of sin.

3 Our flesh and sense must be denied,
passion and envy, lust and pride,
while justice, temperance, truth and love,
our inward godliness approve.

4 His promise bears our spirits up,
while we expect that blessèd hope,
the bright appearing of the Lord:
and faith stands leaning on His Word.
