  • Hymn

Come praise and glorify our God,
the Father of our Lord;
in Christ he has in heavenly realms
his blessings on us poured.
For pure and blameless in his sight
he destined us to be,
and now we’ve been adopted through
his Son eternally.

To the praise of your glory,
to the praise of your mercy and grace;
to the praise of your glory:
you are the God who saves.

2. Come praise and glorify our God,
who gives his grace in Christ;
in him our sins are washed away,
redeemed through sacrifice.
In him God has made known to us
the mystery of his will:
that Christ should be the head of all,
his purpose to fulfil.

To the praise of your glory…

3. Come praise and glorify our God,
for we’ve believed the Word
and through our faith we have a seal:
the Spirit of the Lord.
The Spirit guarantees our hope
until redemption’s done,
until we join in endless praise
to God, the Three-in-One.

To the praise of your glory…

Ephesians 1:3-14

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

  • Hymn

JESUS, still lead on,
till our rest be won;
and, although the way be cheerless,
we will follow, calm and fearless;
guide us by Your hand
to our fatherland.

2 If the way be drear,
if the foe be near,
let not faithless fears o’ertake us,
let not faith and hope forsake us;
for, through many a foe,
to our home we go.

3 When we seek relief
from a long-felt grief,
when oppressed by new temptations,
Lord, increase and perfect patience;
show us that bright shore
where we weep no more.

4 When sweet earth and skies
fade before our eyes;
when through death we look to heaven,
and our sins are all forgiven,
from Your bright abode,
call us home to God.

5 Jesus, still lead on,
till our rest be won;
heavenly leader, still direct us,
still support, console, protect us,
till we safely stand
in our fatherland.

"I want you to know, brothers, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole imperial guard and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ. And most of the brothers, having become confident in the Lord by my imprisonment, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. Some indeed preach Christ from envy and rivalry, but others from good will. The latter do it out of love, knowing that I am put here for the defense of the gospel. The former proclaim Christ out of rivalry, not sincerely but thinking to afflict me in my imprisonment. What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help of the Spirit of Jesus Christ this will turn out for my deliverance, as it is my eager expectation and hope that I will not be at all ashamed, but that with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body, whether by life or by death.

For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. If I am to live in the flesh, that means fruitful labor for me. Yet which I shall choose I cannot tell. I am hard pressed between the two. My desire is to depart and be with Christ, for that is far better. But to remain in the flesh is more necessary on your account. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and continue with you all, for your progress and joy in the faith, so that in me you may have ample cause to glory in Christ Jesus, because of my coming to you again."

  • Hymn

In life or death, Lord Jesus Christ,
be all in all, I pray;
your life, your death make known in me
on earth, till heaven’s day.

2. In sun or shadow be my help;
your voice shall guide my feet;
teach me by your incisive word,
your work in me complete.

3. In calm or crisis be my hope
and take my mind in hand;
so shall I trust you, even where
I cannot understand.

4. In loss or profit be my joy,
my hours for you be spent;
I can do all things in your strength,
so shall I be content.

5. In risk or safety be my friend;
I place my hand in yours,
with you to rest, or wait, or walk,
or run with all my powers.

6. O Christ my help, my hope, my joy,
my all-enduring friend;
all that I am belongs to you
who loved me to the end.

  • Hymn

Prepare our hearts, O God,
help us to receive;
break the hard and stony ground,
help our unbelief.
Plant your word down deep in us,
cause it to bear fruit,
open up our ears to hear,
lead us in your truth.

Show us Christ, show us Christ;
O God, reveal your glory
through the preaching of your word
until every heart confesses Christ is Lord.

2. Your word is living light
upon our darkened eyes,
guards us through temptations,
makes the simple wise.
Your word is food for famished ones,
freedom for the slave,
riches for the needy soul—
come, speak to us today.

Show us Christ, show us Christ…

Where else can we go, Lord?
Where else can we go?
You have the words of eternal life. (Repeat)
Show us Christ, show us Christ…

  • Hymn

WE have heard the joyful sound:
Jesus saves!
Spread the tidings all around:
Jesus saves!
Bear the news to every land,
climb the steeps and cross the waves.
Onward! ’tis our Lord’s command:
Jesus saves!

2 Sing above the battle’s strife:
Jesus saves!
By His death and endless life,
Jesus saves!
Sing it softly through the gloom,
when the heart for mercy craves;
sing in triumph o’er the tomb:
Jesus saves!

3 Give the winds a mighty voice:
Jesus saves!
Let the nations now rejoice:
Jesus saves!
Shout salvation full and free,
highest hills and deepest caves;
this our song of victory:
Jesus saves!
